Community Composting

and

Community Gardening

Gardens often produce excesses of, especially woody materials, prunings and hedge clippings that can be difficult to deal with in the garden. Coming together with a community owned project can give the economies of scale and equipment often necessary to process and properly compost larger volumes of materials.

Dr. Compost has over 20 years experience of setting up and advising Community Composting Projects.

He is the founder of the Chagford Community Composting Project (CCCP) started in 1992. In 1995 it became  a community run business and was renamed 'Proper Job.' It has a 'resource centre', which collects and sells items for reuse, as well as a range of recycling streams and garden composting. Part of the project is  a thriving community cafe and whole food/fresh fruit and vegetable shop in the town.

He has worked with the Devon local authorities and has advised not only Devon but groups and Authorities in England and Scotland, but also helped start the French Composting Network (Compostage Citoyen), and was a key speaker at conferences in Germany, Czeck Republic, France and Italy. He is a trainer for both the Community Composting Network's training programme and the European Community Gardens training programme, through the Federation of City Farms and Community Gardens.
